How Dottie Barrett Became Savannah's #1 History Tour Guide
Dottie Barrett is a licensed professional tour guide who is recognized as Savannah's #1 History Tour Guide. Dottie's passion for history developed when she first delved into her family's genealogy and discovered she was the great-granddaughter of two Confederate officers.
This quest for her family's history sparked a love of American History, especially of the Old South. Once Dottie moved to Savannah, the city's world class architecture, symmetrical urban planning, dramatic stories and historic characters further fanned the flames of her love affair with history.
Dottie has fully immersed herself in all that makes Savannah unique: its history, lore and natural beauty. In fact, because of her expertise, she was tapped by the Savannah Area Tourism Leadership Council to design a "Savannah 101" program to teach members of Savannah's hospitality industry about the city.
In addition to providing tour guide services to destination management companies, receptive operators and individual motorcoach operators, Dottie has had the privilege of welcoming celebrities and royalty to Savannah. However, most of her clients are simply visitors who want the most historically accurate and entertaining tour of Georgia's first city.
With over 30 years' experience as a tour guide of Savannah, Charleston and the Golden Isles, Dottie is a longstanding member of the Savannah Area Tourism Leadership Council and works closely with the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce.

|“It’s just a fantastic experience being with her. I recently had a coordinator tell me that ‘this has been the best tour experience we’ve ever had’ and it’s because of Dottie. She’s considered Savannah's #1 history tour guide. She can do this because she knows Savannah’s history so well and she presents it in such a great way, with all those stories. She’s read all kinds of books about Savannah, the women of Savannah and all the plantations and everything else. She even gets standing ovations all the time at the end of her tours.”|
